Important bulletin for M&Y section

All

Please take a moment to read and digest the relevant info below and where required pass on to parents and players.

Car Park Construction

The work on the Club car park starts this week with and estimated project length of approximately 14 weeks. The contractors will separate the site from the rest of the club grounds to enable them to work and operate safely, please ensure you and especially the children respect the fences and obey all relevant signs. This is for everyone's safety so please be vigilant, especially when we have visitors.

Throughout the build access to the club house will be maintained via a temporary track along the hedge. Please follow the signs and ensure when parking at the Club House you park considerately, as space will be at a premium. Whilst the work is going on the car park at the back of the Whiteway farm that we use for the Youth 7s is available. Access to the grounds is via the gate at the top of Pitch 1. Where possible please lift share or walk to the Club. This will alleviate some of the pressure on the Club but also allow visitors room to park on match days.

Membership

The Membership Secretary Neil Owen has sent you all updated registered players lists and membership status. Please can you respond promptly to him confirming who is missing or who can be removed. There are still a number of unpaid Membership fees across the whole Club. Can Coaches and Team managers chase the outstanding fees as we are now late in the season and people have had plenty of time to pay their membership. Last Season there was unpaid membership, this is simply unsustainable and frankly unfair on everyone else who does pay. I appreciate there may be circumstances where individuals need some support, in this instance can I ask that you contact Neil directly who will gladly help resolve any issues people may be having.

Safeguarding and DBS Checks

There was a big surge in DBS applications at the start of the Season. Sam Jones the Safeguarding lead had been processing these as they come in but there is still a way to go. All Coaches and regular helpers/Team Managers are mandated to complete the RFU DBS Checks. This is not a difficult task and all of it, less the document verification with Sam is conducted online. Please contact Sam to initiate this if you haven’t already done so.

Additionally all age groups must have at least one individual who has completed the RFU Play it Safe/In Touch course within the last 5 years. Again this is a mandated requirement that ensures a standardised practice of good Safeguarding practices is maintained across the Club. Courses can be boked online via the RFU Website and all booking fees will be refunded by the Club on completion.

Fixtures

Please continue to provide Claire Cleaver with your updated fixtures lists. It is key that we maintain a master copy so Mel Lennon can allocate pitches and organise Kitchen help. Can I ask that you ensure when you are nominated to help in the kitchen that parents arrive promptly at 10 am. Caroline will get things started but cannot serve and cook match food at the same time. This is not an onerous task and one age groups on average have to do 3/4 times a season. There have be a handful of occasions when nobody has turned up. When age groups are chased the excuse is they weren’t aware. This is at the top of the pitch allocation email from Mel so no excuse! If you cant do it due to last minute changes to your games then swop with another age group and inform Mel for his records.

In addition to the Club Master Fixtures list all YOUTH Teams (U13-Colts) are to ensure ALL their fixtures have been populated on GMS. The RFU is ever increasingly reliant on the data on GMS for their own analysis and management of Club activities. It is also critical to the Club International ticket allocation that visibility of the games being played can be monitored by the RFU. It is in effect a measurement of the health of the Game as the assumption is that to support a healthy fixture list Clubs have good governance, coaching and volunteer support as well as buoyant membership. I have looked at the Master Fixture list and GMS is not reflecting the Games being played. PLEASE rectify this ASAP.

Volunteer Assistance

I continually seek to encourage volunteers to step forward to help with the many aspects of Club business. It is a constant challenge and one that is critical to keeping everything moving forwards. There are may ways to get involved and many opportunities no matter what spare time you have to help and add value to our fantastic Club. With the income from the Car Park we will be looking for ideas to invest in the Club infrastructure and for people to manage some of the projects. Likewise day to day running of the Club or events always needs helpers to do some of the leg work for the Committee as they only have so much spare capacity to do things. I am particularly keen to recruit a MY Chair person and assistant Chair person to oversee the MY activities. This is not a huge task but is a key appointment within the Club Committee as a focal point for MY issues and a conduit for getting information in and out of the Club to the MY Section. If anyone can spare 2-4 hours a week maximum to take this task on you will be making huge difference to the day to day running of the MY section. More over if an Assistant Chair could be recruited and the role split even better (Youth Chair and Minis Chair???). Please can ALL Coaches and Team mangers try and encourage some assistance from your parents on this as the impact of not having anyone is starting to show.

Any queries or feedback on any of the above feel free to contact me directly or grab me at the Club.

Rugby Club Gets New Car Park

This week in the Wilts & Glos Standard, the car park project picks up the pace with work due to start next month across a three-month programme.

Ths CDC investment will result in an enhanced entrance area to the rugby grounds and 158 permit spaces for the local business community managed by CDC's partner.

As part of this development, we look to also improve the driveway and parking around the clubhouse itself.

Match report 1XV: Cirencester 11 v 19 Fairford

This eagerly anticipated derby was watched by a sizeable crowd, who braved the wind and rain to support their respective teams. The game started with both teams playing some frantic rugby and without any pattern being stamped on the game. The early scrums saw Fairford having the upper hand which did not allow Ciren to get a foothold. It was apparent the weather conditions were going to play a part in the out outcome, with high winds blowing across the field.

Ciren did score first with a penalty having hacked down field which resulted in a penalty for holding on the floor 3-0. With large parts of the game played between the 10m lines, any infringements were penalised with a kick to the corner, and it was Ciren who crucially allowed that to happen. The penalty allowed the men in green to set up a well-constructed line out drive to score their first try. 3-5.

This did spark Ciren into action exerting pressure on Fairford in their half, which saw another Fairford infringement allowing Ciren's Harvey Dickenson to step forward and kick his brace of penalties, making the half time score 6-5 with Ciren in the lead.

The theme of the game continued with a very disjointed pattern, and the game littered with penalties, knock on's, and inaccuracy at the lineout. But Fairford hit back into the lead with a well taken try which was converted 6-12.

Once again Cirencester had it all to do but showing great character, they did so by bagging a try of their own with hooker Noah Newman touching down again from a lineout drive making the score 11-12.

With the clock running down the next score would be decisive. Ciren were enjoying lots of possession but it was not in the areas of the pitch to hurt Fairford, and in hindsight kicking for territory would have a been a better option. After a knock on giving Fairford possession from the scrum, they produced the only quality backs move of the match only to be thwarted by a sensational try-saving tackle by Ciren centre Zeb Waite. From the ensuing scrum Fairford moved the ball into midfield and scored the defining try of the game to make the final score 11-19.

For Ciren it was game they never stamped their authority which did not allow them to gain the vital points.

Cirencester Rugby v Fairford 1XV 2:30. / 2XV 2:15

Tomorrow sees local derby fixtures for both 1XV & 2XV as we welcome Fairford to the Whiteway in what promises to be some exciting rugby. Please come and support.
