It is with great sadness that the club has to inform its members of the passing of Kath Weighell at the age of 93.
Kath became involved in the 'working side' of CRFC in 1954 by providing gallons of hot tea to the guys assembling the first club house. On completion she became the "chief cook and bottle washer".
In the 1956 season she organised the very first "ladies night". A party in the rugby club for wives and their partners. Something that was unheard of in those chauvinistic days.
Kath carried on as head of catering for the next 25 years.
She also had to deal with many a drunken group arriving at her home in Shepherds Way for coffee at any time as closing time 10 pm in those days.
Kath never actually saw a game of Rugby at Cirencester until way after becoming the first female life member.
She was so proud of Cirencester Rugby Football Club.
She has enjoyed visiting the club this season, right up to her sad death.
The funeral was held on 13th January, with the wake held at the club.
