Cirencester Rugby Hosts Country’s Longest Running
7s Youth Tournament 2019

-- Guest appearance: Henry Trinder ---

Sunday 5th May, The Whiteway, Cirencester

This Sunday over 400 boys and girls, aged 11 to U18 Colts, are taking part in the 42nd annual 7s tournament at Cirencester Rugby.

The hugely anticipated event has attracted teams from across the county and beyond, including Bath, Bishopstone, Bromyard, Cirencester, Cheltenham Saracens, Chippenham, Chosen Hill, Dings Crusaders, Dursley, Fairford, Grove, Ledbury, Stow and Supermarine.

The tournament is believed to be the longest running, competition of its kind in the country! A traditional event in the Cirencester Rugby calendar and organised by Mike Timbrell, club Treasurer.

A guest appearance sees Gloucester Rugby and ex-Cirencester youth player, Henry Trinder present a selection of awards and trophies around noon / 12.30 to the morning winners.

Commenting on the Youth 7s Mike said: “We are thrilled with the uptake and registration this year where we are putting on a day of 7s rugby for around 8 age groups. Thanks also to the M&J volunteers who are helping to run the day, their support is essential for us to put on such an event of this size, providing refreshments for all visitors. The festival celebrates the end of the season and delivers a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.”

Staging such competitions is not possible without the support of local businesses and Cirencester thanks to Soldi Building Investments, Alexcars, Property Pathfinder, Seagar Welding and Tanners Solicitors for their generous support.

Last year the main and oldest tournament trophy, the U18/Colts Hugh Evans Memorial Shield, was won by Bath U18s, with Cirencester runners-up. The Bevan Bridges player’s cup was won by Cirencester’s Tom Woodward.

The first matches start at 9.00am with the closing awards and presentations around 4.30pm. The clubhouse and bar is open all day for refreshments and a BBQ is serving food and all are welcome to enjoy the Bank Holiday festivities at the Whiteway.
